A brief and strange mention has popped up online today claiming that Hugh Jackman, he of the shiny claws and the mutant DNA, will be appearing in this summer’s Superman Returns in a cameo as none other than the Man of Steel’s dad.

Which dad Jackman will play – his Earth father or his Krypton pop – is unclear. But according to Variety’s story about the actor, who just won Male Star of the Year at the industry convention ShoWest, Jackman “has a cameo in Bryan Singer’s upcoming Superman Returns, playing the Man of Steel’s young dad in flashback mode.” Hmmm.

And it’s just a Superman kind of news day apparently, because elsewhere on the magical Internet new images of Weta Collectibles' Superman Returns statues have shown up. These figures were “inspired by moments” from the film. You can see one here, but click over to the Weta site for the rest of the images. "

Now I have to watch SUPERMAN RETURNS, too, when it hits our cinemas

I read the VARIETY report and it did mention that Hugh is supposed to play the young Dad of Superman in the film.

I wonder, could this be a trade-off for Bryan Singer to return and helm WOLVERINE ( the spinoff), with 20th Century Fox's blessing??

Actually, it was a rumor that was supposedly debunked about a year ago, so I'm not sure how true this one is.

I heard something recently about their using footage of Maron Brando, from the original series, as "his Krypton pop" so I guess Hugh would have to be "his earth father" in this one.

I've also heard that Dana Reeve (Christopher Reeve's wife) left an envelope with an 'S' medallion for the young actor who will take on the Superman role. What an incredibly thoughtful thing for her to do!

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine in X3 --

Back when the production of X-Men 3 went to **** thanks to the loss of Bryan Singer to Superman Returns, we thought the entire X-Men cast was ready to commit treason with 20th Century Fox and follow their leader to Warner Bros.

Initial rumors claimed that James Marsden had jumped ship and decided to follow Bryan Singer to Superman. Though we know Marsden does have a big role in Superman Returns, he still holds his role as Cyclops in X-Men 3: The Last Stand (even if it is rumored that he gets killed at the beginning of the movie).

Things got even more, well, 'delicate' once Hugh Jackman was spotted on set of Superman Returns months back. Could the X-Men franchise be losing influence with its leading character? Well, fortunately, that is far from the case. Though Jackman did appear on set of Superman to visit Singer, he did not take on any major role for the film.

Jackman and Singer did however figure a cameo was in order.

Keep in mind, if it is true...'Superman Returns' is also opening at all of the IMAX movie theaters this summer.

I have a feeling that perhaps the story was denied so as to add to the surprise element of Hugh's-your-daddy.

If true, much as I love old movies, gotta say it's a big improvment on Glenn Ford!
