Ok you are confronted with an non Hugh Jackman fan (hard to believe that they exist I know, but the world is full of mysteries) and you plan to convert them by showing them only one piece of Hugh's work to date...what would be your choice?

Depends on whether they are:
- a sci fi fan (probably X-men)
- into "chick flicks" (SLY, K&L)
- theater buff (Oklahoma)
- related to me (Swordfish LOL)

I guess the proper answer is...know your audience. Smile

Lizzy's answer says it all. I tried to show my college-student kids "Oklahoma!" but they hate musicals! (Hard to believe I gave birth to them!) But they like sci-fi and "X Men."
My husband doesn't like "K&L" or "SLY" but thought "Swordfish" was OK on TNT. (I think he'd have appreciated the "under the table" action scene had I showed him the unexpurgated version.) He barely tolerates musicals.
So, as one spectaculary talented, sweet-souled, handsome guy has been known to say, "There you go."

Is it a guy or a girl? Swordfish is good.. Xmen and XMen 2, especially if it's a girl, since you get to see his physique Wink Seriously though, if you can get this person to TBFO they will be converted for sure. Also, you could sit them down to watch Inside the Actor's Studio on May 2nd. That's what got me to book my trip to NYC the next day!

I agree. That's what I showed my Mom last wek. I am taking her to see BFO in August and wanted her to understand a little aboutwhy I like him so much. I think the IAS interview shows so much about him. His background, education, love for family, humbleness, not to mention his amzing talent - singing, dancing and acting. You get to see not only a little bit of everything he's been in but you get to see Hugh himself and I don't know about the rest of you but he caught my eye in the movies but won my heart as himself. My Mom was impressed and was able to see the twinkle in his eye that makes him that much more appealing.

I agree. IAS is such a perfect introduction.

IAS worked with my friend. She never got my obses -- er, interest, but began to understand after seeing that. She was impressed with his intelligence. I was a little insulted -- did she think I'd be this whacked over just another pretty face?! Still can't get her to TBFO though.

Well, I loaned my X2 disk to my friend's husband. (I can't believe I did that) and my friend and her two daugthers wanted to know if I had any more Hugh disks! What a discovery.

IAS is a good one -- my friend Anne who is not a fan (she prefers the likes of Alec Baldwin) admitted that she was rather charmed by the boy when she saw that. With a bit of arm twisting I might get her to the show this summer at some point.

For the movies -- as others have said, it depends on what sort of films s/he likes. Fortunately, Hugh's output has been nicely diverse, so there must be something that will work perfectly.

Hugs,
Kelly

If you're going the movie route, either X-Men flick (I think you get a better sense of who his character is in the first one, but the sequel is a better movie overall.)

If you're going the "wow he can be really funny!" route, download some of the Saturday Night Live clips from hjackman.com...the Christmas Kangaroo one is my top ten sketches ever, though you need to be REALLY opened minded for that one lmao.

If you're going the interview route, the IAS is as in-depth as you can get. However, I got the CBS Sunday Morning interview as a WindowsMedia file which is pretty good as well.

I can't believe no one is talking about the obvious one.

I took a friend to see BFO in February. Before that she thought Hugh was just another good looking guy. As soon as we got home she borrowed all my DVDs and ordered an "I heart Oz" pin. Another convert made. Smile

You're right, Jenda. On this Wednesday's trip into the city, I convinced 12 members of the Library Guild to stand in line at TKTS for Oz. They LOVED IT.!!!

Next day, via the grapevine, I heard I'd been the topic of many converstions that night on the order of: "Bert's obsessed all right, but she has a reason to be!" VINDICATION!!!

Jenda, remember that a ticket to Oz is a lot more expensive than sitting someone down with a DVD. While the full force of His Hughness can only be experienced in person, this is meant to 'whet the appetite' as it were, for the full out assault.

Good luck with the choice -- I personally was introduced to Hugh via the first X Men film; didn't know him from a hole in the wall, and decided I really liked this guy. So maybe it'll work for your friend too.

Hugs,
Kelly

Jenda,
You're right. I remember as I was getting dressed to go to BFO, my husband commented that I only liked Hugh Jackman because he played Wolverine. I told him I could just as easily detest him for it, except that he did an awesome job because he's so talented and not so hard to look at either. DH looked doubtful, but after seeing the show he kept saying how talented HJ is and how he's a REAL actor and wow, can he move and what a nice guy. A BFO convert.

No argument about the cost of a ticket Kelly. (Or for that matter, the cost of getting to NYC.) But in a perfect world we'd all be able to bring busloads of friends (or library guild members).

I, like Kelly, first saw Hugh on x-men. I watched in one night on tv and thought..meow. At that time x2 was just coming out so I ran ..seriously RAN to the theater to see it. Then rented all the other films.

Although to hook someone on Hugh I would say Kate and Leopold. He's romantic, and fierce, and just so darn cuddly!

I made my daughter-in-law watch IAS (she had seen X-men, but didn't like it) & she actually enjoyed it & commented about what a happy person he is, cute too. I did the same thing with my sister. She liked his love of mother & wife, so she is going with me to see BFO in May, after we see Hairspray, her birthday gift from me. But I know she will love BFO after seeing it. I agree, his diversity in making movies has something for everyone. I just love them all!!!!
