Today is Oprah's b'day and Hugh sends her a video greeting to wish her a good b'day. He sings a bit to her. It's on at the very end, enjoy!!

Thanks, Kathy. I hadn't heard anything about this elsewhere.

I'm in the Chicago-land area, so it was live for me. That is probably the reason.

He began singing at exactly five minutes before the end of the program. It was a jazzy version of "Happy Birthday."

I heard a character on Criminal Minds sing that version of Happy Birthday once and thought it was just for the show. I didn't realize that other people sang it that way, too. I have to say, it seems easier to sing than the more traditional version; not quite as high pitched. lol

Alicia, was that perhaps the Jason Gideon character played by Mandy Patinkin, who used to star in the show? (I've seen only a few episodes.) I've been to several of his concerts and have some of his CDs. He has a magnificent, soaring voice that spans a couple of octaves. Some accuse him of going "over the top," but I love his singing.

About the song, for those who may not know: It was written by Stevie Wonder during the initiative to make Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday.

I'm not sure if this link will work, but here's a try:

Happy birthday

I remember when Stevie Wonder recorded that. I somehow didn't recognize it as what Hugh sang. It's certainly been a while.

No, it was Shemar Moore's character. Though I dearly miss Mandy Patinkin on the show. It's just not right without him. I loved him in The Princess Bride! Unfortunately I've never heard him sing.

Alicia, Mandy tours in concerts fairly often. Often, at the end, he will strike a pose and say to the cheering crowed, "All right, you've waited, here it is: 'My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." It gets a roar of approval every time.

Safan, you're very welcome to Moscow. Promise to be a great free-guide and to ensure enough snow for the snowball fight and tickets for balley LOL
Ladies, you ALL are really welcome!
Annette and Edie asked me if Russians drink Vodka from decanters. Well we are not, actually. But we can try together LOL.
