Jo-

I always tend to forget his Broadway projects cause I know I won't be able to attend them, unlike his movies. Frown
But yes! There's also HOUDINI which I really hope will happen in the next couple of years. It's great that there was a small update on that one. Who knows? Maybe he'll win another Tony if the show runs longer than Steady Rain, though I find this rather doubtful, considering Hugh's packed schedule.

It´s amazing - especially when I think how depressed we felt on January, thinking that Real Steel will be his only project.
But I am not going to be excited about anything until I will see photos from the set. We know how quickly can these things change in Hollywood and Avon Man is one of his projects I really want to see.

And to Houdini - I have a job - for now - so I could finally fly to see it Big Grin Hopefully, I will keep my job for some time so I can only hope that it won´t take five years before Hugh returns to stage. And I still hope he could be in London again.

Wow - DeNiro is still in the picture!

http://www.movieline.com/2010/...heading-to-selma.php

quote:
De Niro Still Heading to Selma: Precious director Lee Daniels recently caused a bit of head-scratching when he talked to USA Today about his next film, the civil rights drama Selma: “I have to really start casting the movie because we’re shooting it soon. The only person I’ve nailed in for sure is Hugh Jackman.” Last night at the Indie Spirits (where Daniels memorably took home the Best Director prize), I asked if that meant that Robert De Niro had fallen out of the film, since the project had been announced with De Niro playing governor George Wallace. “He always has been cast, yes,” Daniels clarified. “He’s working.”

Having DeNiro in the picture ( Wallace or LBJ??) certainly ups the artistic and maybe the commercial interest in this movie. Of course the theme will probably resonate with the American viewing public as this is one of the most watched times in American history.

Is it just me, but in the thumbnail photo of DeNiro ( check out the link, as it would not reproduce for me), it seems he could be made up to look like LBJ, except it is not DeNiro but Hugh who is almost as tall as LBJ Wink

As DeNiro is supposed to be committed to shoot a film in May...and Hugh will probably be busy with Avon Man and eventually Real Steel, maybe Lee Daniels may have to reset the start date of filming?

Which role will Hugh play?? I wish the reporter had also asked Lee Daniels about this particular casting.

Somehow, I am getting similar vibes, too Wink

Except the ages of the actors would be the opposite of the characters they will play, assuming DeNiro will be Wallace.

Hugh can be deglamourized with some facial prosthetics and also made to look much older -- balding hair, jowls in the jawline, and a paunch -- but the height would be right. Hugh is only 41 while LBJ was about 57 in 1965, as he was born in 1908. On the other hand, Robert DeNiro, if he portrayed Wallace ( who was only in his 40's during that time), is about 66 years old now, as he was born in 1943. This would make him even much older than LBJ then... DeNiro is not very tall, and that was a physical attribute of LBJ.

Who knows? But I guess people are guessing who will play which historical figure. The other key personality would be Martin Luther King. Although this movie is supposed to focus more on a snapshot of what happened during those tense days of the marches...and according to Lee Daniels, will focus more on LBJ than it would on MLK.

There was a TV movie some years ago about the pre-presidential life of LBJ. Randy Quaid played him, which was perfect casting. Hugh is a consummate actor, but no one is perfect for every role. I think he'd be miscast as LBJ, so I do hope he's playing another character.

Just wondering, since Oprah was behind the scenes of Precious, if she also might have something to do with this film and be part of the reason Hugh is on board.

Or maybe because Lee Daniels and Hugh are both repped by WME ( William Morris Endeavor)?

It looks like Lenny Kravitz will also be in the cast, as activist Andrew Young.

If I remember right, didn't Lenny K come to see The Boy from Oz, but when Hugh was looking for him during the BiCoastal moments it seemed he left at intermission ( something to do with some emergency involving his daughter)? Hugh, er, Peter Allen, was quite disappointed Wink

Is that the same Andrew Young who later was mayor of Atlanta?

It looks like he is the same person, Nancy, if you check the biographical notes on Wikipedia --

At one stage Nicole Kidman was alleged to be "engaged " to Lenny Kravitz after she split from Tom Cruise, so possibly Hugh's met him before.

I was there, too. I remember Hugh's jumping up and down in open frustration. I guess he had something fairly elaborate planned before Kravitz was tipped off he'd be the "victim"--at least that was the story I heard at the time.

That's live performance, folks.

Hey, guys - does anyone remember when this happened?

Was Lenny Kravitz supposed to be seated on the left side of the orchestra...or that Hugh was looking for him there in that section? Or is my mind playing tricks - I am recalling too many Bicoastal moments - LOL!

Yes, the audience's left (stage right). That's where Hugh was looking. Good memory, Jo.

I've been out in the Boonies of North Carolina visiting my sister for a few weeks and haven't had internet to check out the forum (I'm at her hospital using their free wi-fi while she's in surgery) so I completely missed out on this thread when it started.

I haven't seen Precious so I can't comment on the directors ability, but from what I've heard of the movie, it's fantastic. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with this story. Selma is only about 5 hours away from me. If they ever do any filming there, I may have to bribe my mother into taking me on a roadtrip.
