Just as he did in THE LOVELY BONES (well, before being replaced himself by Mark Wahlberg), Ryan Gosling appears to be replacing Hugh in DRIVE:

I don't know whether Seed still has the project.

Even then, there were some questions as to whether this was simply a SEED project but not necessarily with Hugh's involvement...and if I remember correctly, there were some issues as to when Hugh and Neil could fit this in in their schedules. But Hugh did mention it during the WOLVERINE promo, together with plans for CAROUSEL. I guess this is one of those projects that change creative teams and actors, a very common occurence these days. And I also wonder whether SEED is still co-producing the film?

Here's an interesting comment from CINEMABLEND --

quote:
As for the actor swap, it’s difficult to form an opinion without reading the book. According to Amazon “the story explores Driver’s near-existential moral foundations while revisiting its root cause: his hardscrabble, troubled childhood,” so Gosling will be working with some potentially dark material. Jackman is always a safe bet, but Gosling generally performs well too. He can clearly handle the book’s dramatic elements, but can Gosling pull off an action sequence?

I hope this won´t happen to Carousel, too. I am sorry to hear about Drive because I liked the book and think it would be a great movie. But at this point, it doesn´t hurt much.
But Hugh probably wants to play in Carousel himself, which makes sense.

Makes me wonder just how good this script is (if in fact, it's even done) because Gosling tends to gravitate towards 'character' driven roles. And I don't have any doubt he can pull off driving a car. He's one of the best actors of this 'young' generation. Some think, the best...thus far.
