Yes, I got one of those mezz tickets (rear mezz, H8) that recently opened up for opening night. I just couldn't resist.

It's always better for people-watching, however, when attending a two-act play on opening night. That way, you can mill around the orchestra during intermission to see who's who among the celebs attending.

Absent that possibility, I'll have to mill around downstairs before darting up to my seat near 6:30 p.m. (although I have a bet with myself that it won't start until at least 6:45-6:50). Smile

So happy for you both getting to go to opening night. You few, you happy few!

Ellen & Annette, while you're people watching keep an eye out for Barbara Streisand & hubby James Brolin. Deb & Nicole were both at her show so maybe.... I'm sure there will be quite a who's who list.

It'll be great to meet you! I can't really figure out what to wear either. I'm always so unprepared for these types of events, clothing-wise.

Might I suggest something in a leopard print? Wink

How absolutely wonderful that so many of you are going to be there opening night!! I'll be thinking of you as I sit across the street in the Imperial, finally seeing BILLY ELLIOT.

For those of you who've been to the play, just wondering how big the Schoenfeld is. How many seats would you say the theater has?

1,078 so it's smaller than The Imperial, which seat just over 1,400. Not the best acoustics, but from reports is seems the stage (not the actors) has mikes.

Enjoy, everyone Smile

Can't you tell I'm very envious Frown

Cheryl and all else with precious Opening Night tickets - please report on each and every celebrity who comes your way at the lobby! Hey, this reminds me of Opening Night at Sydney for the arena version of TBFO, except the only celebrity I saw at the lobby was Barbara Cook Wink...And didn't he chose as his Bicoastal partner the owner of the Sydney Entertainment Center, whose wife, Hugh said was wearing major bling Big Grin

Just guessing - but Barbara Cook will probably be there again Wink

Hey, Jo! Ah yes, the opening night at the Sydney Entertainment Centre - I remember it well! I asked someone sitting near us if they spotted any celebrities in the house, and he said, "Yes, I saw Deborrah-Lee Furness!"
And I replied, "Well I would hope so!" LOL!

I also remember that he chose the owner of the venue, and the line about the "bling". And when he went back toward the stage, he went down my aisle, and I was sitting in an aisle seat, trying to get his attention! LOL!

On a more serious note, Jo, I heard about the floods in Manila, and I hope you and your family are okay.

Thanks for the words of concern, Cheryl!

It has been very devastating - it was a confluence of all kinds of weather disturbance ( 16 inches rainfall in 6 hours which normally takes a whole month to fall down, high tide, monsoons for the wet tropics where we are, the rainy effect of the La Nina phenomemon, and the fact that we have had rains almost every day thus making the soil inefficient to absorb more water).

My family is alright, with some minor inconveniences ( cars stopping, a little flooding here and there, etc) but I have known some friends who have experienced gut-affected kind of tragedy! Very sad! Even our Church was not spared -- chest-high water outside its elevated structure as it was near a creek!

But the spirit is relatively okay -- because everyone is pitching in, from all walks of life -- to help the victims! It will be hard recovery ( not just for the emotional cost, but also for the huge amount of infrastructures and agricutural produce lost,) as we are still much of a developing country!

One worrisome weather report - there are one or two more typhoons coming our way this weekend. We are in the wet tropics and the Philippines gets the second-most number of typhoons every year ( we sometimes run out of the alphabet in naming them), plus we are also in the ring of fire ( volcanic and earthquake events).

One climate expert was talking about how this is likely an early impact of climate change ( believe it or not - I sort of remembered what Hugh said about poverty and climate change being inextricably linked - because who suffered the hardest were those less privileged).

It has been so depressing watching the coverage on TV - that is why I come here often Wink

It's not been a steady rain falling here -- more like a steady deluge Eek

Makes me think of Hurricane Katrina. I'm just glad you and your family are ok, and like you said, everyone is pitching in, which is great.

Maybe Hugh will come there someday to talk about climate change awareness!
