Merry Christmas! Can't wait for the report for those of us who are getting coal in their stocking. |

Who knows, the dreaming may just become reality! Go for it! During the early run of TBFO, one of our first friends on this forum was someone from Australia who was planning to travel all the way over and I believe that would be her first trip to New York. She did come and had seen the show quite early in the run. When the arena tour followed the Broadway run ( 2 years later), we got in touch with each other and actually met and had our photos taken at the Sydney Entertainment Center. She was wearing an unusual t-shirt -- it had a silkscreen print of 3 tickets -- one for the original TBFO with Todd M, the second was for the Broadway run with Hugh, and the third was for the arena spectacular, also with Hugh. A true fan of The Boy from Oz, the musical! Btw, she comes from Brisbane Jo |

I'm glad they have put that limit on tickets. Of course the scalpers have ways around that but it's nice to know that it give the actual theater goers a chance and also because it's a limited run, I like it because the people who plan to see it a number of times (and let's face it kids that's a lot of the people on this forum
This is getting exciting, nervewracking, expensive...thank god it doesn't happen on a regular basis! |

There are already some cynics about the play --
*Someone says that at $ 130 plus charges, one is actually paying almost $ 2 per minute of entertainment. *Also, someone who has seen it says that while it is only for 90 minutes, " the play sucks and it feels like hours" I think we all know this is not going to be the same kind of fun entertainment as THE BOY FROM OZ -- a musical with many fun and very entertaining moments. This is a straight play - and it is going to have a dark, gritty, and harrowing theme! But just like the movies, there is room for a show that focuses on human relationships, human strengths and frailties, and maybe even too much realism for comfort! Maybe think ERSKINEVILLE KINGS but at an even more heightened dramatic intensity? So, I am going with my expectations totally focused on what to expect from this drama! But I am looking forward to seeing very high-caliber acting chops from both actors. Plus I am confident both Hugh and Daniel will show theatre fans the very same strong presence that we see them in onscreen( although we know that Hugh can command the stage like no one Jo This message has been edited. Is all this normal, or are they trying to keep the tickets out of re-seller hands?

Is it really probable that the tickets will sell out in less than a week?
The Julie Roberts play didn't sell that quick, but I shouldn't compare her to Hugh or Daniel for that matter, I suppose. I'm concerned because I'm not an American Express cardholder and I really want to see the show. |

Tncowgirl -- Maybe I have never noticed or paid attention before, but this is the first time I have ever seen such a statement from Telecharge ( see above) about advance sales. Maybe they also had it for THREE DAYS OF RAIN or THE ODD COUPLE? Plus check out his post from someone on AllThatChat -- http://www.talkinbroadway.com/...hat/d.php?id=1748454

they can't sell all the tickets in a pre-sale. there are always tickets held back for the regular on-sale. And some of them better seats then the pre-sale. So keep that in mind.
I'm not an AMEX holder either but my friend is letting me use her card. but I do understand your concerns tncowgirl. |

I guess I should just keep my fingers crossed that there are tickets left after the pre-sale, but it doesn't look good.
They seem like they are trying their best to give individuals a chance to see it, but, still....makes me worried. |

I agree about the seemingly more consumer-friendly slant about access to the show - via the strict ticket limits (to the extent that they can enforce it), the seemingly friendlier ticket pricing structure, the current absence of preference for group sales if the ATC poster has the info right. For Hamlet, all seats with regular prices are priced at the same amount, except for the last three rows of the mezzanine.
Someone on one of the theatre boards commented that for THREE DAYS OF RAIN ( Julia), all they had after the advance sale were premium and odd seats, and single seats.
I think if this were not a very limited run, tickets would have been more plentiful to spread around. But given a 12-week run, with 8 performances per week, and about 1079 seats per performance - that is only about 100,000 tickets or thereabouts to sell ( probably already net of house seats). If I remember right, Hugh sold 100,000 tickets for the Arena show of TBFO across Australia on the first round of sales, also with similar ticket pricing ( top price then was about US $ 350). I also borrowed someone's USA-based AMEX card when I bought tickets for Denzel's JULIUS CAESAR - but started lobbying our issuer of international cards to have our cards recognized after that -- and so did other internarnational cardholders, I suppose -- and I think AMEX saw the point that it can only be a Win-Win situation if they do Jo This message has been edited. I'm so tempted to incorporate this into a short trip to New York only because flights are the cheapest I have ever seen them.
Does anyone have any experience with what the deal with standing room is? I'm basing this on the assumption that the performances will be sold out (and I imagine very early). Do you need to line up on the day of the performance (which I would happily do) or is it something you need to get from the box office sometime prior. The Box Office is stated as "closed"? |

Tell me about it! This totally reminds me of trying to get tickets to U2 or Bruce Springsteen - both of whom I did manage to get tickets to see this fall. I don't have an Amex card, but my mom does, and so she's going to try on Saturday morning. I even offered to come over and help if she gets stuck on the computer! |

It says the Box Office is closed because the theater hasn't opened for ticket sales yet. I passed the theater tonight on my way home and there's nothing up there yet except for the notice about the last show that closed there. I'm assuming it will open when the tickets go on sale to the public. Not sure how standing room is going to work for this show, but I've done it for other shows and they usually go on sale when the box office opens in the morning. If this show is as big as it's looking, expect to get there early for standing room. We did it back when The Lion King first opened, and we got there around 4:30 in the morning. By 6am the line was full! |

I lined up for Lion King many moons ago in London. I was there very early and was second in line and scored what I thought were some of the best seats in the house. First row, exact centre of the royal circle that were returned. I was stoked! But back to the topic, I hope that the standing room for A Steady Rain operates in a similar manner. Of course, I'd prefer not to be standing, but I think I could handle it if I couldn't land a seated ticket. |

know what you mean Jen, I was involved in the U2 presale because my daughter is a member of the fan club and she was in class so I was left to get the tickets. I was shaking everytime I had to hit refresh, so I jumped in there right at 10 am when tix went on sale. it was the worst, but I got tickets so that nightmare is over. for me on the west coast it means I have to be up at 5am to do this pre-sale. I'm feeling okay now, but tomorrow night at this time I will be a wreck. Like so many of the rest of you are as well. doubt much sleep will take place. |
