Hi everyone,

Just stopping by to pay my respects to the 16 anniversary of Peter's passing. But, Oh how alive he still remains here on this forum and so deep inside those of us who love him. His music plays not only on my CD player, but in my head and my heart every single day. Peter, the missing you never eases, but the happiness you bring to my life through my memories and your music balances the scale with unmatched joy. I love you dear man.

Leading Aussie radio stations paid tribute to Peter's passing. Panasonic organised a video tribute for staff members who had met Peter at the office and the Xmas party where he performed, what an entertainer, sadly missed by all.

I knew you'd all be thinking the same thing this morning.

We're so glad we had the chance to know you, Peter, but it wasn't nearly long enough.

Thanks for the music. We miss you, now and forever.

"For the kid in us all,
that will never grow up,
may we laugh and love,
till we drink life's last cup,
for all of the children, that I'll never see,
when they sing about home and Australia,
may they still remember me"

We'll never forget you Peter. Thank you for the music and joy.

"Time is a traveller,
Tenterfield Saddler turn your head"

I keep hoping that on the anniversary of his birth some year, his complete recorded anthology will be released. As Kander & Ebb put it in a song from CURTAINS, "I Miss the Music."

And Peter's uniqueness, too.

He certainly was One Of A Kind, wasn't he?

If I live twice as long, I'll never have half the life...

He really knew how to live. Fabulous man, sorely missed.

In his own words...

The night we said goodbye was full of tears,
It seems so long ago
But still the love remains throughout the years
Now we’ve come to know
If we raise our voices sure and proud
We can have it all and so we’re

Making every moment count
From now on
All we have is now and each other
The times we shared will always last
We’ll make it count helping our brothers
Love is on our side
We’re making every moment count, tonight

Someday we’ll see each other once again
It’ll be better than before
I’ll stay beside you and I’ll be your friend
Of that you can be sure
And we’ll never throw it all away
We’ll spend every single day just

Making every moment count
From now on
All we have is now and each other
The times we shared will always last
We’ll make it count helping our brothers
Love is on our side
We’re making every moment count,

Tonight while the feeling is strong
Nothing can stand in our way
It’s right cause we know we belong
Here together making every moment count.

Honestly, have you ever seen anything like this on stage?

I saw the LIFE magazine tribute... He actually pased away of an AIDS-related cancer. Where did the tribute with the quote come from? People
Magazine? Half of Peter's music is missed because of its unavability on CD. Taught By Experts is available on vinyl but not Tenterfield Saddler.
Here's what Stephen Maclean has to say about Peter's final days in his PETER ALLEN-THE BOY FROM OZ (1996)
"As for his own remains Peter chose on cremation"...
He then goes on to talk about Peter's thoughts on gender issues and about Rock Hudson coming out. "Had things changed? Peter thought television had certainly not" he mentions Scott
Thompson of Kids in the Hall and David Bowie coming out.
But then Carole came to visit him...
"Carole Bayer Sager saw Peter and asked him if he would object to rewriting their own songs..."
And then of course she asked if he was scared of dying (as all people do) His last words to Carole were "Look to your health".
MacLean "He had Kaposi sarcoma (throat cancer?)
now. Peter rushed to San Diego's Mercy Hospital on 11 June. Here he took calls from Bette Midler, Harry Connick Jr., Herb Alpert and Dee
Anthony. Dee was told that Peter couldn't speak so Peter let Dee do the talking". Then it says he was dead around noon a week after he left the hospital. "When I fade, I fade quickly" is what he said of his sleeping habits.
A good read, Hugh J. should read this!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Tim Russert’s death last week. Included in a feature about him in the current People magazine is the following quote: You’d see him and he’d just light up. He had this great gift to make you feel like you were somebody special (Journalist Judy Woodruff).

For those of you who knew Peter – sounds like a quote in reference to him, doesn’t it?

Sure sounds like Peter to me.

Not really a quote I could imagine being used to describe any other serious journalist. Tim Russert will be missed.

Bumping up a thread from last year...

Sigh - it's that time again. Not really a day I like to remember, and at the same time, a day I find impossible to forget.

from the Aussie Bicentennial -

one of my all time faves, from Legs -

at his home in California -

even when you can't see his face, you *know* who it is...

Cheeky Devil - love that smile

We still miss you, you dear sweet man. We always will.

I was making the bed this morning and I looked at the calendar, "Oh, it's June 18th."

Thanks, Peter, for all the great times. We miss you.

Thanks for bumping up the thread Valerie...and I love the picture above too -- I wish they had used this one on the album cover instead!

Sweet, dear Peter -- always missing you...always remembering...always listening to the incredible music that you gave to us. No matter how many years pass, the memory of you is just as clear as if it was only yesterday that you were still here dazzling our senses and pulling at our heart strings. But you live on and on -- forever right here inside of me and through your wonderful music your spirit soars never to leave us.

I love you Peter Woolnough Allen.

I couldn't let this day go by without visiting this forum to remember Peter and say hello to old friends.

Below is what I wrote in the forum in February, it seems even more fitting today. We miss you Peter.

Time is a traveller,
Tenterfield Saddler,
Turn your head
Ride again Jackaroo,
Think I see Kangaroo up ahead

For the kid in us all,
That will never grow up,
May we laugh and love,
Til we drink life's last cup,
And for all of the children,
That I'll never see
When they sing about home and Australia,
May they still remember me.

(who knew how haunting that song would be years later)

there is a great video clip of Liza Minnelli talking about Peter on the Today show (Australia's Today show) it's on the Liza Australia site. under multimedia. She talks about how brilliant, talented and funny he was. How she was so lucky to know him, let alone be married to him. And how Tenterfield Saddler was her favourite song by him.

It's a very nice clip. Thanks.

Liza interview

The part about Peter is 3 minutes into it. There are also some clips of the Broadway TBFO, when he asks her about Hugh and the show.

Thanks for the wonderful stories, photos and comments. I don't think anyone else has been able to capture the level of sheer joy and exuberance he radiated. A lovely tribute.

You're welcome, Ellen, and everyone. As I said, it's something I don't like to remember, but there's no way to forget it -- at some point during the day someone always makes mention of Paul McCartney's birthday, and I get a different kind of "zap" from that -- I immediately think of losing Peter the day Paul turned 50.

I was just taking a stroll down Memory Lane on another thread (about the 2006 Aussie TBFO tour), so I thought I'd post this link here...

a short drive through present-day Tenterfield

From the person who posted the video:
quote:
Don't adjust your sound. There IS none until about the 1 minute mark. Then enjoy Damien Leith singing Tenterfield Saddler, written and made famous by Peter Allen (of Broadway fame). The saddlery still exists, but unfortunately I didn't have time to call by and show you the site or meet the current saddler.
