How could we forget? I hope it's listed in the celeb birthdays on various sites, at least the ones that include those no longer with us.

I'm going to make this a Peter Allen weekend, reminding myself that while it's his birthday, we're the ones who get the gift of his talent!

From YouTube:

I Go to Rio

The More I See You

An interview, almost an hour long. It looks like this was filmed for an early cable show. The interviewer is VERY annoying: ditzy and talks way too much. But Peter looks amused throughout, especially with her over use of the double entendre. There's a segment that's duplicated (when she asks Peter how he met Judy and Liza). About 25 minutes into the interview you're rewarded and get to hear Peter sing 2 songs in his apartment: She Loves to Hear the Music and I Honestly Love You. Then 45 minutes in the video ends with Peter singing I Go To Rio performed at Bottom Line in 1977.

Happy Birthday Peter!

I don't think anything could say it better than this card Mona posted on a different thread -- (Mona, can't tell you how much I love this. The sentiment is absolutely perfect. Thanks!)

We miss you, Peter, we always will. Thanks for the music.

Do any of our Aussie OZalots live near Armidale?

There's a PARTY!

There's an article about it here.
Be sure to click on "related images" for a glimpse of a *very* young Peter Allen and his sister.

JH4HJ, thanks for adding my card to the Birthday thread. And thanks for the links about the birthday party. I wish I could attend. I enjoyed the article, but I couldn’t help thinking Peter would be none too pleased to read this is his 68th birthday!!! I think the correct age would be a big enough shock for him. I remember at the tribute I attended at UCLA on Feb. 10, 1993, Bruce Vilanch made some comment about it being Peter’s 49th birthday, and how he didn’t think Peter would be real excited about the big five-o being just one year away.

LOL -- I had the same thought! For those of you who don't keep track of these things, Peter was born in 1942, which means he *should* have turned 66 this year.

It's funny thinking that I'm older now than he ever got to be. I was still in college when I met him and thought he was a "grown up" at the time. It's all in your perspective, I guess.

......

The boy is getting younger by the minute – lets make that 64, born in 1944.

Mona, Sorry, you're right, of course. I was talking with someone else just now about coming home one day to catch the news announcement of Paul McCartney's 50th birthday and hearing instead that Peter had died. What a shocker *that* was! (OK, Birthday thread -- let's not go there.)

Guess I had Macca on the brain. *HE* was born in 1942. Sorry for the confusion.

Still, it's weird, knowing I'm older than Peter... Now, in my mind's eye, he seems so very young when I met him. Hair down to his shoulders was definitely *not* a good look for him, but he sure did look fa-ha-habulous in a pair of snug bellbottoms!

Here's a laugh for you. He told me his name was "PAY duh" (he had a much heavier accent then) so I called him "PAY duh" and his friends got a chuckle out of it. When I asked, "What's wrong?" they said, "His name is 'Peter'" so I looked at him, rather confused (got *that* smile) and he said something funny about "being a foreigner" and just "luhning" to speak "American." He was always such a riot!

Thanks again for that card. It suits him so well!

What a sweetheart!

Yup, there it is... set in bronze: 1944!

I think I like it better seeing his name up in lights...

...and thanks for this, too. I know just what you mean, Hugh.

JH4HJ, I can’t imagine how unreal it must have been to hear that devastating news about Peter instead of the birthday news you were expecting to hear about Paul McCartney. It must have been such a shock.

I can identify with your comment about how strange it is being older than Peter. I think about that reversal in position, too.

That’s very funny about your repeating his name as you heard it. “PAY duh” and his friends probably thought you were being a wise guy when you said it that way. His accent must have become less pronounced after being in the US for so many years; even so, the way he said his name still sounded a little like “PAY duh.” I noticed his accent would be stronger, and he’d use Aussie slang after he’d return from a trip to AU.

Thanks for those great pictures! Just recently I read how the last thing Hugh would do in the AU shows was turn to bring attention to Peter’s signature then leave the stage without facing the audience again. I thought that was very dramatic and classy. I love that Hugh always acknowledged that it was *all* about Peter. What a tribute to Peter to have such a fantastic performer and wonderful person (not to mention tall) portray him.

Happy Birthday Peter. It's so nice to see so many here to remember you.
The video that's up on Youtube of the 70's cable show is great. I recall Peter talking about that show in an interview he did on a tv show called Citylights with Brian Linehan. The interview took place after John Lennon had died. Brian talked about the fact that Yoko Ono's first public appearance after his death was at Peter's Radio City show. Brian asked Peter if he knew John. Peter said, he didn't know him well.. but John had one time told him that he loved him from that cable show. It was his favourite show. Peter then went on to describe the show. Saying he did it for his loyal fan, and she kept asking outrageous questiions, and he kept falling off the piano laughing.
It just shows how good natured he was and how much fun he was.
I know if he was here, he'd still be packing concert halls and show rooms. I'm sure he would have been on American or Australian Idol too.
The world misses you Peter

Oops, I just realized Valerie posted the link to the cable show interview a few days earlier -- sorry about that! Red Face

Good Morning everyone,

I am sitting here reading all of your posts and smiling the biggest smile this morning. I know I’m not around much, but I am so grateful for all of you. Peter is celebrated not only on his birthday, but every single day thanks to you all keeping his memory and music alive.

The video is wonderful, isn’t it? God, I love that man. When I hear that giggle of Peter’s in the background while the girls are talking – that is the BEST! Dear, sweet, funny, kind Peter...I love you and miss you more and more with every passing day.

Yep, we’ve all gotten older, but Peter remains the same in our memory and hearts – forever young and vibrant and brilliant!

Now…who wants to join me at Peter’s Birthday party in OZ???? Oh…didn’t I tell you? I’m writing this from Australia! NOT….I only wish. We’ll have our own party right here. On this day when I would normally be crying, I am laughing instead. (Although a tear of two just may come later.) Thanks you guys…I love ya all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER. Love and gratitude does not even begin to cover what I feel for you.

Ret (Make that Loretta -- Peter wouldn't know who the heck "Ret" was! Smile)

And he smiles when he says it...

It's really more suitable for TBFO fans to celebrate HJ's birthday right, Funny how they announced that Peter had left the building when Paul McCartney turned 50. Sort of like ten years ago in May when Sinatra passed away and the last episode of Seinfeld aired.
