I've wondered this for a while and I figured you guys would know!
I have one version of the show with the opening song "Not the Boy Next Door" and another version with "The Lives of Me" opening and NTBND performed later in the show. At what point did this change, why, and which one came first in the run? Thanks! |

Not The Boy Next Door - Preview version; filmed 9/21/03
(Act 1 ends with I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love) All The Lives of Me - Frozen version; filmed 10/16/03 (Act 1 ends with Not The Boy Next Door) I cannot tell you the exact date of the switch. Sorry. |

If I remember right, it happened maybe towards the middle part of the previews. That happened at about the same time that Tenterfield Saddler was replaced by Once Before I Go. When we learned about Tenterfield Saddler being dropped from the show, many people on this board started putting up a request to have the song included at least in the cast recording. Happily, the song found its way as a bonus track.
When Hugh was a guest on GMA, he sang Not The Boy Next Door to the delight of Diane Sawyer and her morning show guests on GMA! And he ended up on top of the piano with the delighted Diane "All the Lives of Me" became the official opener of the show when the The Boy From Oz formally opened in October 2003. And I am so glad about that change, because ALL THE LIVES OF ME is my favourite song from the show Jo |
